Geri Halliwell, Pete Waterman and Louis Walsh are to be the judges for the new series of Popstars. Davina McCall will front Popstars: The Rivals, which will see a girl band and a boy band battling it out for a number one chart hit. Louis, best known as Boyzone's manager, will join Pete and Geri judging thousands of hopefuls at auditions in London, Manchester and Glasgow, while Davina brings viewers behind-the-scenes action. >Is Geri going to become a Popstars judge?

Here are 2 articles about it:

Geri to spice up new Popstars

Geri Halliwell is about to join the Popstars bandwagon. The former Spice Girl is to sign a £550,000 contract to become a judge in the follow-up series. The show will have a different format to the previous series and its spin-off Pop Idol. It will embark on a search for two rival bands, one of girls, the other of boys, who will fight it out to secure a Number One record. Pete Waterman, who starred in the recent Pop Idol series, which made stars of winner Will Young and runner-up Gareth Gates, will be the other judge. He and Miss Halliwell will each choose the members of their bands and launch them on the path to fame. Miss Halliwell, 29, has spent the past year in Los Angeles after disappointing sales of her second solo album, Scream If You Wanna Go Faster. She has spent the time writing a second instalment of her autobiography and contemplating her next career move. 'Geri is a perfect choice for the programme because she was a major part of the biggest and most successful girl band in the world,' said an insider. 'She is very excited about the project and the finer details of the contract are being thrashed out. 'It hasn't been decided whether she would head the girl band or the boy band, but whichever it is, she will help choose the members, and then launch them. 'Signing Geri will be such a coup for the programme because of her experience in the pop business and because of her celebrity. 'She's a real fighter so once she's chosen her band there's no doubt she will push them all the way. The bands will go head-to-head by releasing their singles on the same day so it will be very exciting.' Last night a spokesman for Miss Halliwell confirmed she had been offered the job, but said: 'Nothing has been signed yet.' Popstars - The Rivals is expected to be seen in the autumn. Programme makers LWT are confident it will be a massive ratings success. The original Popstars series, which featured judge 'Nasty' Nigel Lythgoe, was a huge success and produced the band Hear'Say. The sequel, Pop Idol, searched for a solo star and featured presenters Ant and Dec as the sympathetic hosts. It also featured a comeback by Popstars reject Darius Danesh, who made it to the final three contestants. LWT said an announcement about the new programme, including the hosts, would be made in the next two weeks.

>Geri in George Michael's new video!

In "Shoot The Dog", George Michael's latest video, appears Geri. Cartoon version of Geri at least. This contreversial video is a criticism of George W. Bush and Tony Blair's behaviour. In the video, Geri tries to strike a little bit of attention by dancing around George Michael's character!

>Another "Spice War"?

A "Spice War", as tabloïds often say, is already announced between Mel B. and Geri. On September, the 2nd of 2002, their books will be released: Catch a Fire written by Mel B. and Just For The Record by Geri. The latter has already been successful with her previous autobiography called If Only so we can hope another success for her new work. Another "Spice War" occured on November of 1999 when Geri and Emma Bunton released their both singles the same day, "Lift Me Up" and "What I Am". Geri went n°1, selling 30 000 copies more than Emma... This is the ananova article:

Former Spice Girl bandmates face book battle

Mel B and Geri Halliwell are to have their new books published on the same day. Scary Spice has written Catch A Fire, based on diaries she has been keeping since she was 13. And her former fellow Spice Girl Geri has completed a second autobiography called Just For The Record. It's a follow-up to If Only about her early life and the Spice Girls, reports The Sun. Both books are due to hit the shops on September 2.

>Geri in Popstars?

According to News of The World and Yahoo,Geri would be about to appear in the new Popstars series. Geri would have to face her ex-boyfriend Chris Evans who would have to find another band. Let's read the articles:

GINGER NUTS Geri Halliwell and Chris Evans will slug it out in the new ITV Popstars series, I can exclusively reveal. The pair, who dated for a week in 1999, will be on rival teams picking two new bands to battle it out for a Christmas No1. Chris Evans only signed for the show on Thursday and will be making his first telly appearance since June 2000. Chris and Geri will earn around £150,000 EACH from the show, and endorsements after the series could see them double their money.

Geri Halliwell To Judge Hopefuls On New Season Of U.K.'s 'Popstars'

Ex-"Ginger Spice" and solo pop singer Geri Halliwell will be a judge on the upcoming season of the TV program Popstars in the U.K. Titled Popstars--The Rivals, the latest edition of the show will feature hopeful competitors judged by opposing teams. The judge on the team opposite from Halliwell will be her ex-boyfriend, British radio personality Chris Evans. According to U.K. tabloids, Evans dumped Halliwell and she has never forgiven or forgotten. The two teams will eliminate the various acts and then the two winners go head to head on the final show of the year. The grand final winner will record a single scheduled to be released in the U.K. the week before Christmas. Filming of the new season starts in September.
