>News from Geri!

Geri was interviewed very recently in Los Angeles by Vernon Kay for radio 1. In this interview, Geri said that she is fine (what we can hear in the tone of her voice) and that she is proud of her new album. She also talked about the operation of her throat which obliged her not to talk for two weeks. Further to this operation, her voice became a little bit higher than before (what can be noticed in the interview) so now she can sing higher according to her. She also said that she thinks she wrote the best songs she has ever written for her new album that will contain ballads but also some 'big gay dance stuff'. Besides, she also spoke about Yoga and her participation in 'Sex and the City'. Furthermore, Geri revealed that she was 'free and single' but that she is enjoying it. Indeed, she goes out very often in Los Angeles, she especially loves clubbing. She also said that she gets hit on in supermarkets quite often!! Besides, she also talked about the Spice Girls and that she had recently bought a book about Spice Girls songs which contains a poster that she stuck on her wall. She eventually ended the interview by saying that she is "really looking forward to seeing everybody in spring"!

>Spice: the final frontier

They promised us they would never do it, but the washed-up old has-beens formerly known as the Spice Girls are releasing a greatest hits album. After months of saying they had put the most successful part of their careers behind them, the fragmented five have agreed to the CD. The final green light came from a dubious Mel C. She now accepts that milking the last drops of lucre from the Spice legacy might be a good idea.

The album will be aimed at this year’s Christmas market and will include the group’s nine No1 hits. GERI HALLIWELL, VICTORIA BECKHAM, MEL B, MEL C and EMMA BUNTON have all had to sign a deal for the record to come out. No decision has yet been made about recording a new track to promote the CD.

But there is talk of a one-off reunion gig to promote the blast from the girl power past. A Spice insider said: “This was discussed at the Spice summit a year ago. Four of them didn’t rule it out but Mel C was reluctant. She didn’t want to let go of the last vestiges of a solo career. That’s gone down the pan now so they have OK’d it. It was always the goal of their old manager Simon Fuller to reunite them. That’s partly why he took on Emma and Victoria after they were dropped by their labels. It’s not just about money for him. It’s unfinished business because they sacked him before he had finished with them.”

Baby, Posh, Scary, Sporty and Ginger all embarked on solo careers after the demise of the supergroup. Only Geri avoided being dumped by by the original Spice label, Virgin. Mel B was the first out after album Hot proved to be lukewarm. Emma and Victoria were axed after ropey solo attempts. And now, as The Sun exclusively revealed last week, Mel C has been fired.

Geri will release her third album this year but after the car crash that was Scream If You Wanna Go Faster, she has been told it must succeed.

So dust off your platform shoes, shimmy into your Union Jack dress and tie your hair in pigtails — for one last time it looks like it’s going to be a Spice-y Christmas this year.

>Geri quits America

Geri Halliwell is quitting Los Angeles for London in a bid to revitalise her pop career. The former Spice Girl is to spend 2004 in the UK to promote an as-yet-untitled album. The singer knows she has to have a hit — or her future in pop is in jeopardy. A source said: “Geri has no commitments in the US this year and has parted from her management company, Handprint, over there as a result. She will be represented in Britain by their UK arm, Global.”

>Sulky Geri's a leading lady

It's a dog’s life for Geri Halliwell as she takes two pooches out for an LA stroll. Geri was with her own “LA dog” Daddy and a pal’s pet. The former Spice Girl seemed moody and one passer-by said: “Geri looked hacked off." Perhaps the pressure is telling... Geri is working on an album and she knows if it’s as big a dog as the last one then her label will drop her.
