04/28>Geri
joins Broody Bunch

It
looks like Geri Halliwell is feeling broody – she looks really happy pushing a
pram in the park. I reckon the thing she wants, what she really, really wants
is to be a Mama. The Ginger One spent the day with sister Natalie Jennings, her
nephew Alistair and a pal’s tot in West London. She showed off her new curves
in white pedal-pushers ... Dolce & Gabbana of course, daaahrling. Geri – whose
Spice Girls’ No1s included Mama in 1997 – leads a very different life to her sis.
While the pop star flits between homes in Los Angeles and London and hobnobs with
celebs, classroom assistant Nat prefers the quite life.

become fun
Geri
Halliwell and Duncan James are teaming up to host this year’s Party In The Park.
The pop pair will present the open-air concert in front of 100,000 fans and Prince
Charles in London’s Hyde Park on July 11. The former Spice Girl and Blue pin-up
Duncan were chosen after organisers decided they would pull in maximum publicity.
Friends
say the singers have amazing chemistry as a presenting duo and reckon the partnership
could lead to bigger things. A pal told me: “This is a massive deal to land and
could be the start of big things for them as a team. Duncan and Geri get on brilliantly,
there’s a real spark between them. Who knows, they could be the next Johnny Vaughan
and Denise Van Outen. Duncan presented the show last year and everyone was happy
with his performance. But getting Geri is a bit of a coup — this is the first
major presenting role she’s had. As a double act they have something different
to offer.
Geri and Duncan sparked rumours that they were secretly dating after being spotted
together. But they were simply discussing their roles in the event. They met last
year when Blue were in Los Angeles recording with Stevie Wonder. Geri got chatting
to Duncan about working together and the couple hit it off straight away.
Duncan
told me: “I was introduced to Geri by Innocent Records as we’re both signed to
the same label now. It was suggested that we should write together. Geri loved
Blue’s single, Guilty, which I co-wrote. So we met up for dinner to discuss it.
We got on really well and we’ll be working together in the future. It’s flattering
— but for the record there is nothing romantic between Geri and myself.
Party In The Park is to be broadcast live on Capital Radio and on TV’s C5. It
raises money for the Prince’s Trust.

Girls rally round to support Posh
While
public rifts seem to have broken down the once ubiquitous "girl power" of the
now-defunct Spice Girls, it looks like the artists formerly known as Baby, Sporty,
Ginger and Scary have joined forces to rally around a troubled Victoria Beckham.
Thirty-year-old Victoria, who pals say has been "really struggling to put on a
brave face" as her marriage weathers talk of husband David's alleged infidelities,
has received the support of her former bandmates. Ex-Spice Girls Mel B and Mel
C have both called with messages of support, while Geri Halliwell followed her
phone call with a bouquet of flowers. "Emma (Bunton) was practically in tears,"
an insider told the Daily Mail. "But she's closer to Victoria than the others."
Posh is "touched" by the gestures, continued the source, adding: "Despite their
differences, they are there for one another when it counts."

place at the Royal Albert Hall.

throat op hell
Geri
Halliwell has had throat surgery to save her career. The ex-spice girl was ordered
into hospital for the three-hour op after being warned she might never sing again.
I accept that may be good news to a lot of you but please, have some feelings
for the girl.
The
artist formerly known as Ginger had two small but potentially damaging growths
— known as nodules — cut out. Doctors told her there was no way she could even
think about recording her new album without the op.
A
pal of the star told me: “The problem was found during a routine check-up for
a sore throat. The news came as a shock to Geri. It is a fairly common complaint
for singers but if it goes unnoticed the effects are disastrous. She was told
she needed surgery before she could go into the studio. She hates operations and
all that medical stuff but knew it was too important not to bother with. Thankfully
the operation has gone well and she is fighting fit and ready to crack on with
the album.”
The
distraught singer secretly visited a private surgeon in Los Angeles for the procedure
earlier this year. A few days later she jetted back to the UK. A spokesman for
Geri said: “The operation was 100 per cent successful which is a great relief.
Luckily there was no permanent damage to her voice or throat.”
In fact, the op went so well that Geri is apparently now able to hit higher notes
and her voice is much clearer. I’m looking forward to hearing the new improved
version. Geri is in the studio working on tracks for her third solo album for
Innocent Records. It doesn’t have a title yet. She sees the release as make or
break for her future solo success. Geri has been writing tracks with Blue’s Duncan
James after learning he co-wrote the boy band’s hit Guilty, which she loved. Expect
to hear the follow up to her last album, 2001’s Scream If You Wanna Go Faster,
in the autumn.
